James is an institutional investor by background.
James has deployed over $10 billion in capital with the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) over a period of 12 years. These investments have ranged from incubators, private markets, real assets, derivatives, foreign currencies and listed markets. James was responsible for deploying c. USD 1.5 billion into various ILS vehicles since 2010.
He is an investor in bio-energy developer Utilitas and Chairs their Financial Advisory Board. He has also served as a director on numerous corporate Not-for-Profit boards.
Academically, James has a background in economics and has previously served on the Central Council of the Economic Society of Australia and as President of the Society in Queensland. Among other qualifications, James is a Fellow of FinSIA and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Mateen has an investment banking background. He held senior front office positions for the likes of JP Morgan, UBS and Deutsche Bank in New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong. He specialized in the front office distribution of derivative products, hedge fund sales and block trading and completed over two billion dollars in OTC block transactions and was deal captain for numerous billion-dollar deals during his career.
After banking, Mateen focussed on raising capital from Asian investors for real estate and technology companies in the USA. He worked with one of the largest privately-owned mobile home park operators in the USA and raised the equity capital for over $40 million worth of acquisitions.
An active angel investor himself, he has been affiliated with VentureLab Growth Partners since 2015, an incubator based in Los Angeles. He has raised capital for numerous early stage ventures and is an advisor for two of VentureLab’s portfolio companies.
He is a British national and a graduate of Oxford University.
Richard has three decades of experience in capital markets as well as technology. He was the head trader for BT Fund Management Australian equity portfolio. On leaving BT, Richard set-up and ran Citi’s Equity Capital Market’s (ECM) business in Australia.
Richard then went on to be the CEO of an ASX listed technology company, Dark Blue Sea, for 10 years. This company was an industry-leading global business that specialised in online advertising and domain names. He is currently a partner of Startmesh and non-executive director of Uniquest, a unit that commercializes the IP of the University of Queensland.
Richard has been involved in raising over $3 billion in 20+ transactions. This has given Richard deep experience in capital allocation and a first hand understanding of the link between corporate growth and proper access to capital.
He is also on the investment committee of the Brisbane Angels and specialises in early internet ventures.
He is an Australian and is a graduate of the Australian National University.
Pierre has two decades of global experience in all aspects of insurance risk transactions including (re)insurance underwriting, fund and portfolio management, risk modelling and structuring.
Backed by deep analytical skills, Pierre has managed various insurance linked portfolios, notably the Bermudian White Mountains Re reinsurance risk portfolio, and the ILS fund of Scor Investment Partners in Paris. There he crafted various different ILS offerings to satisfy a range of investor risk-reward expectations.
In Australia, Pierre has advised on ILS strategies to many investors such as QIC and helped many others understand the underlying mechanics of ILS.
Most recently Pierre lead the Sydney office of the US risk modelling firm RMS, responsible for market development in Australia and New Zealand.
Born in France, Pierre is an Australian citizen. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, and is an active member of the ANZIIF.
